The right bike

Simply remove dirt

Maintain the bike chain properly

If not, you should roughly clean the sprocket, chain and derailleur. A lint-free cloth soaked in solvents is often sufficient for this. Stubborn dirt can be removed with a brush or toothbrush.

After cleaning, you can lubricate the chain with chain grease or oil. The following applies: less is more. Excess fat or oil can be easily removed with a cloth.

If you grease your chains with lubricant for spraying, you should be careful: the spray mist can get on the brake surfaces or brake discs and thereby greatly reduce the braking force. The grease prevents the brake shoes from engaging properly.

Don’t forget to brake

Rust on disc brakes that has accumulated over the winter can provide a particularly strong braking effect when the brakes are used for the first time. You should also check the tire pressure during your spring check-up.
